If we look at any point in the timeline of automotive development, people have always been dreaming of what was to come. In the days of having to hand-crank your starter, future concepts involved vehicles that would start by themselves. The sleek, aerospace-inspired automobile “fins” of the 50s were inevitably a prelude to flying cars. But as we still found ourselves grounded to the road with rubber tires many decades later, we began to focus on the realistic technologies within the vehicle, as opposed to the anti-gravity hover-cars of sci-fi.

1. Fuel efficiency demands and regulations will transform the car engine as we know it. Smaller and highly efficient engines will replace the gas-gluttonous models we’ve all owned at some point, and will pave the way for a transition from internal combustion to hybrid and electric propulsion.

2. “Smart car” technologies such as collision avoidance, navigation and computer assisted operation will continue to evolve. Vehicles will be connected as never before – to the environment, to us, and to each other. Cars will park themselves, be aware of traffic signals, and connect you to resources such as gas or charging stations as needed. Imagine vehicles that are aware of each other and can apply corrective measures when necessary, reducing the carnage associated with traffic accidents.

 3. Vehicle security will render car theft virtually impossible. Built-in streaming video and GPS will allow you to see or find your vehicle, no matter where it is. Your key might be replaced with a retinal scanner, allowing only an authorized user to operate the vehicle.

4. A number of companies are pursuing driverless vehicle concepts. Just get in, tell your car where you need to go, and kick back with your favorite book while it takes you there.

There are many very exciting things to look forward in our daily commute, and Mobile Installation Services will be along for the ride. After all, your driverless smart car will certainly need a mobile home theater to go with it, right?
